A writing contest is held eash Spring among the 2nd through 6th graders of the local elementary schools.  Winners are recognized on stage at Dinner and a Movie and given an award.  The local newspaper is asked to featured their picture and entries. Themes for the contest have include Healthy lifestyles and volunteering in your community.  This year's theme was "Courage."

2011 Junior Auxiliary Writing Contest Winners Announced

Junior Auxiliary announced the winners of its annual writing contest April 15 in Railroad Park.  The contest, which invited students to submit entries based on the theme “Courage” was held this spring for all parish students in second through sixth grades.  Junior Auxiliary of Ruston, a volunteer organization founded in 1981, hosted the contest which was sponsored by Lincoln Achieve and The I.D.E.A. Place.  The winners from each school were presented with certificates by Cathi Cox-Boniol from Lincoln Achieve and Lindsey Keith-Vincent from The IDEA Place during JA’s Dinner and A Movie.  The five parish-wide winners, representing 2^nd through 6^th grades, received a gift pack from Lincoln Achieve and a free week at The IDEA Place Summer Space Camp.

The parish-wide winners were: 

2^nd grade – Dylan Spain from Cedar Creek School

3^rd grade – Jada Booker from Cypress Springs Elementary

4^th grade – Madison Jones from Simsboro School

5^th grade – Carley Strickland from Hillcrest Elementary

6^th grade – Thomas Strebeck from A.E. Phillips
